What we know
Byron H. Phillips's hotel, with his store across the corner; as town treasurer he kept the town's money in the store until 1894. The Cliff House burned on April 11, 1896 (El Paso County Democrat, April 18, 1896) and the store about the same time (Sabin, S-0019, pp. 35, 72, 107).
Where it was
The Cliff House and the Phillips store stood 'on opposite corners of the intersection at High Street and South Valley Road' (McFarling's note in Sabin, S-0019, p. 107 n. 6); that junction in OpenStreetMap (2026-10-06). Which corner each stood on is not known. Good to a few hundred feet.
Placed from a written description, such as a land section, a distance from a landmark or an old survey note.
