What we know

D&RG station and sidetrack; 'Principally stock-raising. The surrounding country is timbered and bluffy' (Crofutt 1881). Glade School District No. 25: a school in the Glade district by 1883; a new schoolhouse built by John Harris in summer 1893. George Upton ground grain and kept a blacksmith shop 'at his ranche opposite Glade switch'; the Glade Nursery sold seed potatoes; the Santa Fe built a switch at Glade (about 1902) for a fire-clay deposit southwest of J. D. Wilson's home (Castle Rock Journal items, Larkspur Historical Society binder 4 pp. 384, 401-402). Tomah, on the Santa Fe, is under a mile northwest.

Center of Sec. 3, T9S R67W, from Place Names of Colorado ('RR stop on D&RGW. 4 mi N of Larkspur'), via the BLM PLSS survey grid; good to about half a mile. 'Glade, a sidetrack about five miles south of Castle Rock' (Castle Rock Journal, as copied in the Larkspur Historical Society binder 4 p. 384); 'thirty-eight miles south from Denver' (Crofutt 1881), five more than Castle Rock's 33 (1875 directory). The section center is 5.2 miles south of downtown Castle Rock.
