What we know

Log schoolhouse of 1922 at the Shoup Road-Black Forest Road crossroads, beside the Black Forest Community Hall. Built 1921 (von Ahlefeldt p. 101), 1922 (PPLD) or 1923 (Ellett p. 27), after a school-district fight led by Cort Burgess. Ellett says Burgess bought the land from the Edgar Box Factory and his wife Gertrude gave it; a foundation went under it in 1926. Edith Wolford taught here from 1934. Pupils went to Falcon from 1945, and the county made the school its road maintainer's house (Ellett pp. 27-30, 42).
