## What we know

Jerome Weir's mill on Black Squirrel Creek, from 1863 (bought with Judd from Robert Finley); the county's first planing mill (painting of 1880). The 1872 temporary post office, 'Old Easton', was probably here (von Ahlefeldt). Place Names of Colorado's 'head of Black Squirrel Creek', Sec. 26, T11S R66W, about seven miles west, and Ellett's mills on the Trump place (Park Forest) are other Weir sites, possibly later ones.

## Where it was

Scott's 'Weir Mill' leader goes to the same symbol as 'Brush Corral Camping Place', with '(Old Easton 1872)' beside it: Scott, Historic Trail Map of the Denver 1x2 Quadrangle (USGS I-2639, 1999, S-0106), symbol read from the reprojected sheet good to a few hundred feet). 0.4 mile southwest of the Eastonville cemetery, as von Ahlefeldt has it ('southwest of the Shadelands Cemetery', pp. 51, 54; her 1979 map about 1 1/2 miles west-southwest); 16.7 miles straight-line from downtown Colorado Springs, against Weir's ads, 'Easton P.O. … 18 miles N.E. of Colorado Springs' (1874-76). Scott 1999 may draw on von Ahlefeldt 1979, so the two are not wholly independent; the ads are.

Read from Glenn R. Scott's USGS historic trail map of 1999 and confirmed by a second, independent source.
